Men’s knowledge on prostate cancer needs improving

In this article by Medical Press using information collected as a result of a Canadian Institutes of Health Research Grant, the lack of information and understanding is explored in relation to prostate cancer patient sufferers.

Professors Joan Bottorff and John Oliffe are scientists with UBC’s Men’s Health Research Program and undertook research to look into the understanding levels of prostate cancer paitents about their disease, treatmetn options and how their treatment choice would impact their lives.

The article also looks into how gained knowledge was ‘applied’ and how understanding is so crucial in the joint choices a doctor and patient can make for the treatment of prostate cancer.

This further highlights why awareness and understanding is key to the treatments used in combating prostate cancer and especially so in cancers that have been diagnosed in the early stages.
